In our I-77 Diaries, FOX 46 asked the North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore what it would take to cancel the toll contract. Senator Phil Berger says he doesn’t know where the money would come from to cancel the contract with Cintra.
“At the present time, the funds are not available within the Department of Transportation without taking all the money that would go to other projects in the Charlotte area or take a good bit of money from other parts of the state.”
Senator Berger says the Senate voted last year to allocate money to get out of the contract. But Berger explained members of the Senate and the House couldn’t agree on where the money would come from.
