West Sacramento, CA contracts with ride-sharing service for new public transit option

The West Sacramento City Council recently approved a proposal for New York-based Via Transportation Inc. to deploy a fleet of about 10 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans to allow passengers to share vehicles within city limits, as an alternative to bus transit.

Mayor Christopher Cabaldon told the Business Journal that, although the details are still being worked out, the one-year pilot program could launch by next spring. Riders would be able to use a phone app to book rides, or call the service directly. Via’s app matches passengers with others going in the same direction.
