West Palm Beach, FL considers adding more surveillance around city gateways

On Monday, the city West Palm Beach city leaders may vote on a new way to fight crime faster in certain parts of the city.

Commissioners are taking a first look at a new ordinance that would have cameras and other surveillance installed on the property at St. Mary’s Medical Center and JFK Medical Center North.

“Both hospitals own land along Greenwood and Congress Avenues, which are gateways to West Palm Beach. Allowing cameras at those locations could provide crucial information when solving crimes and searching for missing people — especially Silver Alerts,” West Palm Beach police said in a statement.

The ordinance states this is all a part of West Palm Beach police department’s new Real Time Crime Center, which launched in November .
