New York: Undocumented immigrants keep flocking to DMV for driver’s license

Traffic was steady all week at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Goshen, as undocumented immigrants streamed to take advantage of a new law enabling them to get licenses. Each morning since the Green Light Law took effect on Monday, eager applicants have been lining up in the cold outside the Government Center before the DMV opens.

By Friday afternoon, county officials said more than 530 undocumented immigrants had come in for learner’s permits, with no let up over the course of the week. That tally didn’t include the customers who came to convert the driver’s licenses they had gotten from states like Connecticut and Maryland that already offered them to undocumented immigrants.
