Traffic-diverting projects coming this summer to the interstate system in Nebraska

The head of the Nebraska transportation office in Omaha is alerting motorists: This construction season’s road projects will cause traffic backups, maybe tremendously on the Interstate.

Drivers in northwest Omaha and commuters who take the Interstate in west Omaha should take particular note. A series of construction projects are on tap in those two areas.

Tim Weander, the Omaha area’s district engineer for the state Transportation Department, said he hopes that if drivers know in advance what projects are on tap, they’ll be able to find new routes.
