Should NYC speed camera revenue be used to fund street safety improvements?

The data reflects all speed and red light camera violations that were issued on Staten Island from Jan. 1 through May 16. During that time, Staten Island’s speed cameras issued 110,648 violations, totaling $5,532,400 in fines. Meanwhile, the borough’s red-light cameras issued 14,136 violations from January through mid-May, totaling $706,800 in fines. Currently, all revenue from speed and red-light cameras goes directly into the city’s general fund, something Drabczyk said she is hoping to change.
