School, police fed up with drivers passing stopped school buses in Beloit, WI–next step, cameras

Town of Beloit Police and School District of Beloit Turner have been working together on various solutions. They’ve had police cars stationed along popular routes, even sometimes unmarked cars, but they say drivers are still passing every day.

Their next solution? Cameras on the outside of the buses.

“As soon as the incident occurs, there’s literally a mechanism or a button that the driver can press to indicate where that can be found on the recording,” McCarthy said.

The plan is for two cameras per bus – one at the back, and one at the side just under the stop sign. They’re starting with three buses, but they plan on adding more.
