San Diego will study possible pedestrian/bike bridge over I-5 connecting new trolley line to beaches: Cost Possibly $20M

Mike Hansen, the city’s planning director, told the City Council’s Land Use and Housing Committee last week that city officials will launch a study to evaluate the engineering and cost feasibility of a protected pathway over the freeway.

The bridge would likely be similar to two other crossings being built over the freeway near UCSD as part of the trolley project. Those bridges cost roughly $20 million each.

“We would like to see this connection,” Hansen told the committee. “We’re looking at many different potential funding sources.”
