San Diego: SANDAG chief takes more heat from East County officials over transit proposal

El Cajon is the latest East County city to push back against a transit-oriented vision put forth by Hasan Ikhrata, the executive director of the San Diego Association of Governments, the region’s planning agency.

Ikhrata on Tuesday presented the City Council a general outline of SANDAG’s “bold new transportation vision in five big moves.” He has been traveling around the county trying to sell his proposal to city and county officials, many of whom remain wary of his push to divert billions of dollars from freeways to transit.

El Cajon officials told him they were against the plan as currently presented, saying it would take away promised voter-approved TransNet funding.
