Rhode Island tests new autonomous buses for Providence

Rhode Island’s new fleet of autonomous shuttle buses are now being tested in Quonset.

The shuttles, provided by Michigan-based May Mobility, are set to undergo 500 miles of testing both in North Kingstown and Providence before opening their doors to passengers sometime this spring.

The Rhode Island Dept. of Transportation (RIDOT) said the “Little Roady” shuttles must pass multiple safety tests including adherence to lanes, avoidance of obstacles and navigation of roads in the dark and during adverse weather conditions.
