Pennsylvania Advocate Letter-to-the-Editor: Bill SB419 to give local police radar is a sham that amounts to ‘taxation by citation’

Speed trap Senate Bill 419, or radar for local law enforcement, is on the state legislature’s fall calendar. Pennsylvania is desperate for revenue and is determined to pass this taxation by citation bill.

The promotion of radar is based on anecdotes, urban legends and under-posted speed limits. Pennsylvania Vehicle Code (Title 75) states that speed limits should be posted at the average 85th percentile speed.
