NY Legislator Proposes putting Red-Light Cameras at Railroad Crossings

Anyone who tries to circumvent the railroad gates would have a picture of their license plate taken, which would then put the onus on the municipality to send out tickets to the offending drivers.

“These red light cameras are an effective way to discourage indivduals from breaking the law,” Thomas said.

Thomas believes repeat offenders should get their license revoked, “There shouldn’t be any reason why someone should they could just go around the gates.”

Three people were killed Tuesday night when two Long Island Rail Road trains struck a vehicle that police said was “trying to beat the gate” at a crossing in Westbury — a crash that led to a myriad of service disruptions for the Wednesday morning rush.
