Drivers in the Lake Area can expect to see changes at more than 100 intersections across southwest Louisiana; flashing yellow arrows.
Motorists will eventually encounter the new flashing yellow arrow traffic signals on all state roadways across Louisiana at locations where a protected left turn already exists.
The Federal Highway Administration authorized the use of flashing yellow arrows nationwide in December of 2009. These signals have already been installed and are in use in several other states.
It may be a little confusing when you first see one but Tammy York with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says the change is proven to be safer.
“It’s a good step forward. The state is trying to make intersections safer while being innovative at the same time, while getting more people through the intersection,” said York.
