North Carolina DOT Updates Process For Changing Gender Marker on Driver’s Licenses

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has changed the process to update a person’s gender marker on their driver’s license.

NCDOT released a Sex Designation Form for those who are looking to make the change. The form replaces the former requirement for a surgeon’s letter and can be authorized by a broader range of providers.

Currently, 21 other states use this procedure recommended by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.

Organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina are applauding the new procedure.
