More than 26,000 Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack trucks recalled over transmission issue

The Town Council approved the filing of a lawsuit to challenge the legality of the state’s authority to impose tolls on the Sakonnet River Bridge during executive session on Feb. 25.

The lawsuit has not been filed yet because town officials are waiting for a response from state and federal agencies, Town Administrator Richard Rainer said Tuesday.

Although there is currently no toll on the bridge — which connects Portsmouth and Tiverton — the state Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority continue to have the authority to impose tolls at any time in the future, if the governor and General Assembly decide to do so, Rainer said in an email to The Daily News.
