Monticello, Illinois considers stop-arm cameras for school buses

Superintendent Dr. Vic Zimmerman proposed stop-arm cameras that would deter drivers from ignoring the signal as they approach buses picking up or dropping off students.

“The camera would automatically turn on when the stop arm comes out – it would focus in on the vehicle and the license plate and we would report that to the police,” Zimmerman said.

Offenders would receive a $150 fine and have their license suspended for three months.
