The Massachusetts Department of Transportation rejected a request from the Board of Selectmen to lower the speed limit to 25 miles per hour on Main Street, Lincoln Avenue and Essex Street.
In January, the selectmen voted 4-0 to reduce the speed limit to 25 miles per hour on Main Street, Lincoln Avenue and Essex Street (unless the speed limit is already lower). Two weeks later the board approved a similar speed reduction on Central Street.
MassDOT District Highway Director Paul Stedman reviewed the special speed regulations adopted by the selectmen.
Stedman informed the selectmen in a letter last month that “the existing speed zones as requested on Lincoln Avenue, Main Street and Essex Street would not conform to the current speed regulations.”
