License plate readers popping up in the village of Wellington, Florida

The village of Wellington is getting new sets of eyes to watch drivers around the clock.

License plate readers are going up along roads in and out of Wellington.

Some are already in operation, while others are still being installed.

In July, the village council awarded a $463,000 contract to Vetted Security Solutions for an automated license plate reader system.

The cameras can scan plates in real time.

Within seconds, the devices can send notifications to law enforcement.

The readers will be connected to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
