Kalamazoo, MI installs barriers in the road of Northside neighborhood to reduce speeding

The city of Kalamazoo launched a new traffic calming project on Thursday, by putting up physical barriers in the road, forcing drivers to slow down.

Some community members in Kalamazoo’s Northside neighborhood said speeding is a problem on residential streets where they live.

“We’re listening to what they are telling us and we’re seeing in the speed studies that we are doing, speed that’s much higher than we want it to be on those streets,” said Kalamazoo Public Services Director James Baker.
