Hyundai Motor develops biometrics to open, lock and start car engine

Hyundai Motor car drivers can leave keys behind as they will be able to open, lock doors and start engine with just a gentle touch of a fingertip under biometric authentication technology.

The South Korean automaker said Monday that it has developed a fingerprint recognition system that allows a driver to not only open and lock car doors but also start the engine with a fingerprint. The system works by verifying fingerprint information against pre-registered biometric data when a person touches the sensor on a car’s door handle. The fingerprint reorganization unit also includes an engine start button that allows only authorized drivers to start the car.
