GM Secures Key CA Permit for Cruise Self-Driving Program with Human Passengers, No Backup Drivers

GM is making progress on a driverless pilot program as advanced testing has just been approved to take place on California roadways.

According to recent reports, GM applied for — and was granted — a permit to test its Cruise driverless cars in California, while toting actual, human passengers. According to TechCrunch, GM is the first to receive such a permit, which allows for the passengers but does not require a backup driver.
