Frustrated Chicago cabdrivers don’t see much help from new ride-share tax, license fee cut

The City Council approved Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s $11.65 billion budget on Tuesday, which includes a big jump in ride-share fees aimed at raising revenue and cutting congestion on Chicago’s streets.

The budget also cuts in half the license renewal fee cab owners pay, a move aimed at helping the struggling taxi business. But cabdrivers say the changes won’t do much for their industry, which has been devastated by Uber and Lyft over the past decade.
