Edmonton, Alberta: City wrongly assuming Vision Zero behind reduction in traffic deaths (Vision Zero Watch)

Um, if traffic deaths and major collisions are down without lowering speed limits, why lower them? It’s great that in 2019 traffic deaths were down 26 per cent from the year before and down 56 per cent from 2015. Last year had fewer traffic fatalities than at any time since 1999. But it doesn’t necessarily follow that lower speed limits would make things even better. The city, of course, claims it is their Vision Zero traffic safety strategies that are behind the reduction. But that’s a huge assumption.
