East Oakland, CA: Scraper Bike Lane part of 90th Avenue repaving, redesign project in Oakland (colorful and distracting?) (War on Cars Watch)

In a salute to Oakland’s scraper bikes, colorful circles resembling bicycle wheels now brighten the pavement in the median of 90th Avenue in East Oakland as part of a repaving and redesign project.

Oakland’s Department of Transportation collaborated with the Scraper Bike Team in making the project a reality. In an area that has seen its share of shootings and traffic fatalities, the project aims to slow down speeding cars and improve safety in the six-tenths of a mile stretch of 90th between Bancroft Avenue and International Boulevard. The project is a part of the city’s 2014 five-year paving plan and the East Oakland Planning for Paving initiative.
