Detroit police crack down on gridlock at busy intersections

It happens to many drivers approaching a yellow light — you can’t make it through because the light has quickly turned red, but your stopped vehicle is now blocking the intersection.

The Detroit Police Department is kicking off a new campaign to remind drivers that blocking an intersection is against the law.

Officials said they studied some of their heavily traveled roadways and most congestedintersections to create a plan to increase traffice flow and bring safety to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Now you’ll find new signage around the city warning drivers not to block the intersection. Many of those intersections are located in downtown Detroit, as officials say more people are coming  to downtown for entertainment, to live and to work.
