Defying the NY state DMV, Dutchess clerk continues to enforce rule barring out-of-county residents

The Dutchess County Department of Motor Vehicles office on Wednesday stuck to its new policy of processing driver’s license requests only from county residents.

The County Clerk’s Office, which oversees the DMV operation, instituted the policy Monday, citing the increased workload resulting from the state’s new Greene Light Law. The law lets undocumented immigrants who live in New York to seek driver’s licenses, and Monday was the first day they could apply in person.
