Gov. Ned Lamont is backing away from the state’s commitment to a regional climate initiative that’s already fraying over proposed gas price hikes.
“Raising the gas tax, which frankly is what many Republican states have done to pay for transportation, is 100 percent paid for by Connecticut residents and probably not the way to go,” Lamont said during a WNPR radio show Tuesday morning.
The governor’s comments represent his strongest repudiation yet of the regional Transportation Climate Initiative signed over a year ago by former Gov. Dannel Malloy and 11 other Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
