Chief of Police Robert Johnson presented the 2018 racial profiling data annual report to the Corsicana City Council Monday evening at its regular meeting.
Under the Texas Racial Profiling Law, Article 2.134 Code of Criminal Procedure, police departments must compile a report of all traffic stops made during the 2018 calendar year.
The articles mandate that police officers must, when making traffic stops, collect information on the race or ethnicity of the individual detained, whether a search was conducted and, if so, whether the individual detained consented to the search. The report also states whether the peace officer knew the race or ethnicity of the individual detained before detaining that individual, whether the peace officer used physical force that resulted in bodily injury, the location of the stop and the reason for the stop.
Overall, Corsicana police officers made 8,411 total traffic stops in 2018.
