Connecticut: In latest partisan squabble, New Britain council hits roadblock on toll debate

An hour after Mayor Erin Stewart called for better bipartisan cooperation in city government, the Republican and Democratic caucuses of the common council held a testy back-and-forth Wednesday night that devolved into what both sides described as partisan game-playing.

Republicans pitched the idea that New Britain should publicly declare it doesn’t want tolls in or near the city; Democrats countered that they haven’t seen enough details about where toll gantries would be erected — or how they’d affect local traffic.
