Charlotte, NC area’s first toll road to open next month

The Monroe Expressway — the Charlotte region’s first toll road and the second in North Carolina — will open in late November, providing a quick route around the traffic of U.S. Highway 74 in Union County.

The 20-mile bypass will cost a motorist $2.54 each way if the automobile is equipped with an NC Quick Pass transponder, which allows the N.C. Turnpike Authority to debit the cost of a toll from an online account. It’s $3.92 each way if the state has to bill you for the drive.
