California bill AB317 aims to ban selling DMV appointments

A private firm is capitalizing on DMV appointment time, promising to get earlier dates or even wait in line for you — but it comes with a cost.

However, some state lawmakers say the idea of people being able to sell appointment times is wrong and introduced a bill in late January to ban the practice.

“We shouldn’t allow some third-party entity to grab these appointments when people who really do need these appointments are now forced to go three, four, five months down the line,” Assemblymember Vince Fong, R-Bakersfield, said.
