Arkansas: Bill (HB 1182) would amend law regarding drivers’ use of cellphones in school zones

An Arkansas bill is seeking to amend a law concerning distracted driving and to make it a primary offense under certain circumstances to use a handheld wireless telephone while passing school zones or school buildings.

House Bill 1182, sponsored by Rep. Charlene Fite (R), would allow officers to “stop or detain a driver of a motor vehicle solely to determine compliance” with the law, which prohibits drivers from using a handheld wireless telephone while passing a school building or school zone during school hours when children are present and outside the building.
