Automated vehicles focus of Senate committee hearing

A Senate committee hearing this week will focus on federal perspectives regarding highly automated vehicles.

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, will convene a hearing titled, “Highly Automated Vehicles: Federal Perspectives on the Deployment of Safety Technology” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The hearing will include witnesses from the National Transportation Safety Board, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to discuss the safe testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles, self-driving vehicles, or driverless vehicles.

According to the hearing agenda, witnesses will discuss recommendations for realizing the potential safety, mobility and efficiency benefits of automated vehicles.
