As Connecticut install tolls on cars, some worry the idea might catch on in Rhode Island

In Rhode island, critics of the truck toll system say it’s just a matter of time before cars will be tolled as well.

“It should send shivers down the spine of Rhode Islanders. We said that’s what they were planning to do here all along,” said Mike Stenhouse of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity.

The director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Peter Alviti, said that’s not a worry. The truck tolls are only one-tenth of the money scheduled for bridge construction under the RhodeWorks plan.
