As 301 bypass opens in Delaware, Warwick, Maryland sees increased traffic

While the new nearly 14-mile road, which runs from the Maryland-Delaware border up to join Delaware Route 1 near the C&D Canal and features three interchanges along the way, aimed to make traveling through the Middletown area easier and safer, it also created a new concern: tolls.

Before now, Route 301 had few tolls compared to other highways like Interstate 95, making it a preferred alternative route for many long-distance drivers, especially tractor-trailer drivers. With the bypass’s all electronic tolling system, however, the more convenient trip became more costly overnight.
