Annual auto emissions inspections could become a thing of the past in Pennsylvania

Legislation bills aimed at modernizing Pennsylvania’s way of reducing air pollution through mandated vehicle inspections were approved by a Senate committee on Wednesday.

The Senate Transportation Committee approved by a 9-5 party-line vote legislation that would lift the requirement for annual emission inspections, which cost about $40 on average, on vehicles up to eight years after the vehicle was manufactured. The bills are now positioned to continue working their way through the Senate.
