Florida: Alachua and Marion County leaders share wary view of highway expansion

The Alachua County Commission and the Marion County Commission both are wary of the state Senate president’s recently announced desire to extend highways in this part of Florida.

The Marion commission has drafted some proposed language for its comprehensive plan to clarify its position. Alachua County might consider doing the same.

It would be ideal if both bodies could be on the “same philosophical page” concerning this topic, Alachua County Commissioner Mike Byerly said on Thursday during a joint meeting of the two commissions.
