Agreement would turn over Michigan DOT streets to city of Kalamazoo

According to the memorandum, road segments would no longer function as state trunkline highways. City planners have sought control of the trunklines to implement the master plan, which seeks to make Kalamazoo easier and safer to navigate, while connecting neighborhoods, downtown and college campuses.

MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said the state would have no hand in approving future changes to the streets.
