Work is ready to begin on a $666 million reconstruction of a section of Interstate 35 East in Dallas, which will involve no toll lanes.
The Southern Gateway project is estimated to take four years to rebuild and widen I-35E and U.S. Highway 67 in southern Dallas County, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. State and city officials gathered February 28 for a groundbreaking ceremony.
The project is part of the Texas Clear Lanes initiative to reduce congestion and cut commute times in metro areas, with non-tolled transportation solutions. I-35E is the state’s 17th-most congested road segment.
