      Dear Michigan NMA Members,

Beginning Monday, October 1st, residents who have the Driver Responsibility Fee debt will have it wiped away. Last spring, the governor signed a law to fully repeal the fee.

Additional staff have been added to help alleviate the expected long lines and wait times at your local Department of Motor Vehicle Office (DMV). Over 300,000 residents have this debt and should be receiving a letter that lets you know if you have other issues to take care of before they can get their license back. This includes outstanding tickets to pay off or licensing sanctions.

If you do not know if you’re eligible, call 1-888-767-6424 to check your driving record. Those who are eligible will not have to pay the license reinstatement fee before December 31st.

If you know someone who has been or may have been a victim of the Driver Responsibility Fee law, you might remind them to check out the rules to wipe out the debt and get their license back.

Thank you for your support of the National Motorists Association.
