Redflex Continues To Bleed Cash
Redflex Traffic Systems has yet to recover from the massive corruption scandal that put a top executive, a lobbyist and a city official behind bars. The Australian firm told investors Monday that revenue has dropped 11.7 percent, creating an overall after-tax loss of $31.7 million for the financial year. Redflex Chairman Adam L. Gray sought to reassure shareholders that Redflex is nonetheless on its way to recovery.

Government Report Calls For Clarity On Automobile Privacy
The push to connect vehicles to one another and to the Internet has created a role for federal agencies to clarify its privacy protection role, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) concluded in a report released on Monday. The government watchdog agency is worried that vehicles will continue to collect more and more data while federal standards continue to fall behind, failing to keep up with the pace of change in the industry.

US Border Patrol Sets Up New Hampshire Roadblocks
Motorists traveling one hundred miles away from the US border with Canada found themselves stopped and searched by federal agents this weekend. The US Border Patrol set up the roadblocks on Interstate 93 near Woodstock, just barely within the US Supreme Court’s definition of an extended “border zone” that allows the use of checkpoints to verify immigration status and conduct suspicionless searches.

North Carolina Tests Intersection Crash Reduction Tech
Red-light camera vendors insist they have the only technology that can reduce intersection crashes, but the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been testing its own inexpensive technique that prevents some red light running crashes. The dynamic all red extension (DARE) system uses pavement sensors to detect whether a car has enough time to stop when the light turns yellow. If not, the signal holds all traffic until the car clears the intersection.

Belgium, China, France: Speed Cameras Manipulated
In Bagnols, France, vigilantes set fire to the speed camera on the RD6 early Saturday morning, Midi Libre reported. On the same day in Kerdual, white spraypaint took out the freeway speed camera. According to Ouest France, the same automated ticketing machine was painted purple in April then blue in July. The speed camera on the RN2 in Bucy-le-Long was torched last week Sunday, L’Ardennais reported.
