Car Taxes Could Determine Control Of Washington Legislature
The Washington state legislature is evenly split, with a single seat giving Republicans control of the state Senate, and a two-seat advantage for Democrats in the state House. The outcome of a just one race for an open Senate seat could give the Democratic party full control of Olympia in November. Local digital currency entrepreneur Jinyoung Lee Englund is looking to hold the seat on behalf of Republicans on a platform that places automotive taxes, particularly the registration fees known as car tabs, near the top of the agenda.

Ohio Court Upholds Right To Warn Of Roadblocks
Ohio residents have a right to warn fellow motorists when police set up a roadblock, the state Court of Appeals ruled last week. Officials in the city of Parma attempted to use obstruction of justice charges to jail Douglas E. Odolecki, an activist with Greater Cleveland Cop Block, a group that documents police misconduct. The Parma Municipal Court sentenced Odolecki to eight months in jail for holding the sign and videotaping police in an unrelated incident.

Ohio Appeals Court Blocks Speed Camera Lawsuit
Ohio cities violating state laws regulating the use of speed cameras were given a free pass earlier this month by the state Court of Appeals. A three-judge panel tossed a class action lawsuit filed by motorists seeking refunds for photo tickets illegally issued in the city of Cleveland.

France, Italy: Speed Cameras Targeted
In Bologna, Italy on Tuesday, vigilantes set fire to three cameras. According to Il Resto del Carlino, the devices were located on the Via Porrettana between the towns of Sasso Marconi and Pontecchio Marconi. One of the cameras in Sasso Marconi had only been activated on May 15. In Reggello on Wednesday, red spraypaint was used to disable two out of the three speed cameras along the main route through Rona Pian, the Valdarno Post reported. The “Velo OK” speed camera in Reana del Rojale was knocked over last week. According to Udine Today, devices in the area have been attacked several times over the past year.
