California Lawsuit Against ATS, Hertz Goes To Trial
San Francisco, California is not backing down in its lawsuit against American Traffic Solutions (ATS). City officials insist the Arizona-based company has been ripping off the public, overcharging visitors who use Hertz rental cars and pass over the Golden Gate Bridge. On Tuesday, San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Curtis E.A. Karnow set the matter to go to trial in November 2018.

Ohio Lawmaker Takes Another Shot At Speed Cameras
The Ohio General Assembly has been reluctant to ban red-light cameras and speed cameras. Instead of outright repealing the authorization granted by the state for their use, lawmakers in 2014 passed a handful of minor restrictions and called it a ban. Even this was too much for the state Supreme Court which ruled in July that restrictions that failed to serve an “overriding statewide purpose” were invalid.

California Supremes: Church Not Responsible For Jaywalking Parishioners
The Grace Family Church in North Highlands, California is not responsible for a traffic accident that happened when a visitor crossed the street to attend services. The state’s highest court on Monday denied Aleksandr Vasilenko’s attempt to blame the Slavic Baptist church for injuries suffered while jaywalking on a nearby street.

Sleepy Drivers Kill More Than Red Light Runners
Motorists are more likely to be killed by a drowsy driver than a red light runner. According to data released last month by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers who failed to get enough sleep caused an average of 824 fatalities each year — 2.5 percent of the nationwide road toll. By comparison, the latest NHTSA data show an average of 708 red light running fatalities annually.

Austria, France, Saudi Arabia: Speed Cameras Egged, Spraypainted, Scorched
In Gmunden, Austria, a pair of teenagers decorated a photo radar van with a large quantity of flour, ketchup and eggs on Halloween night. According to the local police, the 17 and 18 year olds responsible were identified later that morning in a public square holding eggs.
