The Northwest Louisiana Transportation Safety Coalition is Making Our Roads Safer

By Joe Kopfler, car accident attorney of Kopfler & Hermann, Attorneys at Law

There is a very important organization that helps saves the lives of many in Louisiana, yet very few residents know about it. This is the Northwest Louisiana Transportation Safety Coalition, and they work tirelessly to ensure that Louisiana roads are as safe for all drivers. They are on a mission to increase awareness on dangerous driving behaviors and help improve hazardous infrastructure.

The more eyes we have looking at the safety of our roads is always a good thing. There are still too many people driving recklessly, driving while distracted, and even in this day and age, driving while drunk. Focusing on these problems and raising even more awareness of them is a great thing, not to mention the work they are doing on the actual roads.”

It’s true that the Northwest Louisiana Transportation Safety Coalition is much more than just an advocacy group. They are out in different regions of the state every day, finding problems and fixing them. Currently, the Coalition has seven different regions, or what they call parishes, in the state. These include Caddo, Bossier, Red River, DeSoto, Webster, Bienville, and Claiborne.

When members of the Coalition identify a problem, they then bring it to the entities that can help, such as a city crew that can get out and fix the problem without bringing in outside contractors or workers. It is all part of the state’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan, which has eight other coalitions under its umbrella dedicated to making Louisiana roads safer.

All of the coalitions are made up of educators, engineers, law enforcement, and first responders. By bringing these entities together to solve the problems on the roads, Louisiana can reduce the number of accidents that occur on them even faster. The Coalition plans to tackle many issues with its current agenda, including the importance of seatbelts, proper car seats for children, distracted driving, impaired driving, infrastructure issues, teen driving, and more.

The Coalition is also hoping that members of the community will get in touch whenever they see a problem on the roads and be part of the solution.

I don’t see any talk of engineering fixes in the article, or they are downplayed. I would look deeper into their agenda, as it might be the usual nonsense from people who do not understand highway safety, and might incorporate part of the enforcement-for-profit-not-safety racket.
