HB 149 was introduced to the Utah House on January 29, 2019. It has been referred to the House Transportation Committee which did not consider the bill.
The bill would amend the Utah Traffic Code to permit lane splitting by motorcyclists. It defines lane splitting as when operating a motorcycle other than an autocycle, the act of overtaking and passing another vehicle in the same direction of travel in the same lane.
Lane splitting, when done responsibly by the motorcyclist, can improve the efficiency of traffic flow and reduce travel times for those traveling by motorcycle.
