New York Assembly Bill 1405 – Prohibits Discrimination in Promotion of Police Officers Who Don’t Meet Traffic Ticket Quotas
Prohibits discrimination in the promotion of police officers who fail to meet their employer's traffic ticket quotaFull Bill Text
Bill 1405 was introduced on January 11, 2021 to the NY Assembly and was referred to the Assembly Labor Committee where it is pending.
The NMA supports A01405. Law enforcement officers should never be pressured to issue tickets in order to meet a performance-based quota. To do so results in unnecessary, and often unjustified, ticketing which is unfair to motorists and breeds distrust between the community and police.
