New York AB 204 – Relates to notification requirements for traffic-control signal photo violation-monitoring devices and photo speed violation monitoring systems
Relates to notification requirements for traffic-control signal photo violation-monitoring devices and photo speed violation monitoring systemsFull Bill Text
AB 204 was introduced on January 9, 2019 and referred to the Assembly Transportation Committee. The bill has not yet been assigned a hearing date.
The NMA is opposed to the use of red-light cameras and speed cameras. That said, AB 204 requires jurisdictions operating such automated ticketing devices to post advance warning signs for motorists of camera operation positions. Those notifications could prevent sudden reactions by drivers who only become aware of the devices when encountering them, reactions that often lead to accidents.
The companion bill in the NY State Senate is SB 696.
