Bill SF 75 was initially assigned to the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee. It has been re-referred to the Judiciary and Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee. A hearing is scheduled for February 4, 2019.
The bill would greatly increase the penalties for using a wireless communications device to compose, read, or send an electronic message whether the vehicle is in motion or not. It would also authorize law enforcement to seize the communications device under civil asset forfeiture laws.
