UPDATE May 18, 2021: The Indiana legislative session adjourned prior to this bill receiving any consideration.

Bill 1029 was introduced to the Indiana House on January 4, 2021 by a Republican representative. If enacted, the legislation would increase the maximum speed limit from 65 mph to 70 mph for large trucks, i.e., those with a declared gross weight greater than 26,000 pounds.

The NMA supports this bill because it would better equalize the speed limits between heavy trucks and lighter vehicles such as cars, SUVs, light trucks and motorcycles. This is a safety measure because differential speeds between vehicles create higher accident rates than common limits among all vehicles.
