Illinois House Bill 1718 was introduced into the House Rules Committee on March 27, 2021. The measure would repeal the use of red-light cameras throughout the state as well limit the ability of municipalities to operate speed cameras. More background on this bill can be found here.

The NMA supports this bill since photo enforcement is more about generating revenue than improving public safety. It also raises serious due process issues for motorists who receive tickets. More on these issues can be found here and here.
